The Honor Play 9A is designed as a dependable, budget-friendly entry-level smartphone prioritizing prolonged battery life, solid audio output, and essential daily connectivity. Powering the smartphone is the 12nm MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765) octa-core processor, comprising four ARM Cortex-A53 performance cores running at 2.3 GHz and four power-saving Cortex-A53 cores at 1.8 GHz, paired with an IMG PowerVR GE8320 graphics processor. Accompanied by 4GB of RAM and internal storage configurations of 64GB or 128GB (expandable up to 512GB via a dedicated microSD slot), it delivers steady performance for everyday tasks like web browsing, social media, media playback, and calls on Android 10 with Magic UI 3.0.
Visuals are delivered via a 6.3-inch HD+ IPS LCD display (720 x 1600 pixels) with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 278 ppi pixel density, and an 81.34% screen-to-body ratio. The waterdrop notch screen provides good color reproduction and includes TUV Rheinland-certified eye comfort modes to reduce harmful blue light emission during extended nighttime reading sessions.
For optics, the device features a dual rear camera setup comprising a 13 MP primary camera with an f/1.8 wide aperture and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), accompanied by a 2 MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture for natural portrait blur. The camera system supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), panorama, and 1080p Full HD video recording at 30fps. On the front, an 8 MP selfie camera (f/2.0) handles video calls and self-portraits.
The defining highlight of the Honor Play 9A is its massive 5000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, engineered to deliver up to three days of moderate usage on a single charge. It supports 10W wired charging as well as OTG reverse wired charging (5V/1.2A), allowing the phone to function as a power bank for other accessories. Audio is amplified by a high-power Smart PA speaker capable of reaching volumes up to 88dB without distortion. Additional features include a responsive rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner, face unlock, a 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio with a built-in antenna, Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 5.0, and Dual 4G VoLTE connectivity.
